For context: The review I initially posted was 4 stars regarding a failed ECU repair on my vehicle. Looking back, I feel I lacked the knowledge to give a fair reflection of the services that I paid for. 15 months ago I brought in my vehicle for a check engine light. Our family mechanic took a single glance and told me my timing chain was bad and to get a car that didn't suck. I stubbornly wanted a second opinion and took it to Asian Imports. I was given a $160 diagnostic fee that would be waived upon successful repair of my vehicle. A few days pass before I get a full list of leaks, lights, bushings, and parts need addressing. I was told that my engine light was caused by the ECU. And the programming and installation would be done in 1 week for $2000. 2 weeks later I'm given a call informing me the repair was unsuccessful and the cause was indeed the timing chain. This was news to me and the techs as it was not identified in the initial inspection. So I don't have a car for 2 weeks and have to hack up $160 for a diagnostic that doesn't identify the problem I asked to be diagnosed. To the shop's credit, other leaks, lights, seals, and parts were correctly noted. I left 4 stars for professionalism, desk guy was nice and I was busier feeling bad about my car THIS CONCLUDES MY OWN INTERACTIONS WITH ASIAN IMPORTS. WHAT FOLLOWS IS THE REASON WHY I'M UPDATING THIS REVIEW. I take the car back to my family mechanic and after some begging he grumbles and agrees to teach me how to fix my stuff. After weeks of cursing, breaking things, and putting them together, I finally have a working car and life is great. The family mechanic hired me and I worked there for a year. Made many mistakes and learned many lessons. In this time I learned some more things. When my ECU was being replaced the tech definitely snapped my glove box dampener. (The glove box must be removed to access the ECU) Wasn't noticeable when I got my car back but I figured that out pretty quickly when removing my harness. Honestly not a big deal. It's an old, beaten car. I understand the nature of the job, the plights of the technician, and the unrealistic expectations of clients. Fast forwards to today my friend has me look at her Honda for whining from the steering system. I replaced 2 o-rings and changed the fluid. Cheap and simple job. Air was leaking through the o-rings on the pump. Asked her why she didn't take it to a shop. She did. Asian Imports. Was quoted for the entire pump and a bunch of other stuff. Left for whatever reason but she was dissatisfied. Also paid the $160 diagnostic. This just leaves an awful taste. I can hardly consider myself a mechanic. Just some idiot with a wrench. But the shop wouldn't even entertain the idea that the O-rings had failed. It's 3 10mm bolts and takes 5 minutes to check! I have no doubt that ASE certified mechanics at this shop dwarf my skills, but this was plain sloppy. If there's anything good that came out of my endeavors it's that my experience here eventually led to me learning a lot of things I probably wouldn't have otherwise. Thank you for that.
