If you have an Asian Imported car, winter preparation varies slightly from its American-made counterpart. In previous years, we have given you tips to prepare your import for colder weather. Here we have combined those tips into one comprehensive list. Don’t trust just any car maintenance shop; for routine maintenance on your Asian import in Las Vegas, visit us at Asian Imports Plus.
Examine Belts and Hoses
Now that temperatures have begun to drop and will continue to do so for a while longer yet, check your belts and hoses for wear and tear that can be exacerbated by below freezing temperatures. If you are unsure how to check these yourself, have an import specialist take a look at them.
Check Battery
Don’t forget about your import’s battery Winter is the ideal time to make sure that your battery’s posts and connections are corrosion-free and that your battery has all the water it needs. If the battery is more than three years old, it is a good idea to have the battery tested by a mechanic.
Replace Windshield Wipers
Wiper blades only last for about a year and you should really be switching out your blades twice a year, in Spring and again in Fall. If your Asian import has had the same wiper blades since you’ve owned it, it may be time to invest in a new pair. If you have a crack in your windshield, safety is an additional reason to aesthetics to repair your windshield.
Check Tire Pressure
Checking tire pressure regularly is important year-round car care. In winter months, it is especially important to make sure air pressure is maintained. As temperature drops, air will contract and tires may appear flattened. Don’t be tempted to fill them while they are cold because once your tires warm back up, the air could expand and cause a blowout. It’s important that your tires are properly inflated to ensure that you’ll have the best possible traction as you drive.
Consider Snow Tires
If your climate calls for them, consider snow tires. If you live in a hilly place that gets its fair share of snow, you may want to improve traction even more by investing in winter tires and using them over the next few months instead of your usual all-season tires. Your local auto repair shop should be able to recommend the right tires for your Asian import.
Check Function of Four-Wheel Drive
Does your Asian import have four-wheel drive? Make sure it’s checked and functioning correctly. Be sure that the system engages and disengages easily, and that all drivers in your household know how and when to activate the system.
